We are just under a week out from company (a talking circle), and I want to remind you to join me.

I spend a lot of time trying to imagine ways for us to find each other again, things that do not involve lending ourselves to the endless conveyor belt of scrolling.

Welcome to company.

company is an hour together once a month. It begins Sunday, May 31st, on Zoom. 9 am PT / 12 pm ET / 5 pm BST

This isn’t a class, a panel, a networking thing, or a space where someone arrives with advice or answers unless you ask outright (one of the main rules of this format.) I wanted somewhere to sit down with you and have real conversations, through sharing and holding the space for each other.

This is how it works: we open with a short reading, some gorgeous found material. I’ll open the meeting and usually chair it, allowing time for a round-robin style of sharing, though there is no pressure to do so; you can simply show up to listen. I’ll close us out at (or before) the hour.

company is for people craving community in an unvarnished sense, who want to be in a room with others wanting the same. We’ll talk about whatever the reading opens up for us, and beyond, the things we’re carrying, the things we’re working on, the things we are excited about, or the things we don’t say elsewhere.

Important things to note

1. I’ll never record. What’s said in the room stays in the room, and we operate a code of anonymity. I have a list of obviously poetic, but non-negotiable, company conduct rules to keep the space safe. To avoid any confusion, you’ll always hear them on the day at the start.

2. Rooms will be capped at the host’s discretion. I’d rather it be small and impactful than large and distracting.

3. It’s once a month, on the last Sunday. If you can’t make one, the next one is four weeks away.

4. It’s included with a paid or founding subscription to the utter and cannot be accessed with a separate fee. Made a thing to help you know what you think; a notepad with seventy pages, rude questions and three colourways. This notepad will tell you about yourself. I fill in these pages when I need to slow things down, make a decision, or tell myself the whole truth, no dancing around. I’ve been sharing some of these questions here and on Instagram over the past few months, and a few people have asked where they come from. This is where!!!! I’ve been using mine for a good while. It’s how I come up with some of these entries.

I called them SOFT INTERROGATIONS because they’re direct shots to the heart, and give you somewhere to stand while you figure things out. If you tend to carry a lot and, like me, prefer language that helps you dial in, this is how we begin.
